Walsall Case Study

Walsall Borough Council asked ChildrenFirst to identify the issues facing the Council in reconfiguring their Children's Services provision to meet future needs. We worked with key Council officers to review their progress to date, to identify the key challenges faced by the Council and to recommend a number of options for change. These were accepted by Cabinet in September 2006. This was an initial scoping exercise for the Council to assist them in developing their strategy for change. The Council is now moving to Phase 2 of its strategy, which is to engage a wider group of stakeholders in its proposals for change and to refine the Council’s specification of its future provision. As a result of our work, the Council now has a clearer understanding of the pathways it can follow, as well as the legal and technical issues it faces.
